When it comes to caring for your jewelry, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind in order to keep it looking great. Here are some helpful tips and tricks to keep your pieces looking beautiful.

Storage

• Proper storage will keep your jewelry looking beautiful for years to come. If you’re not wearing a piece, don’t leave it sitting out, be sure to store it properly. Oxygen, moisture, dust, and other chemicals from products like makeup and lotions are what can cause tarnish or dull your jewelry.
  
  Store your jewelry in a clean, dry, and air-tight place, such as a jewelry box or a zip-lock baggie. All jewelry comes with a black tarnish strip to protect the jewelry from the elements. Keep this sealed with your jewelry to protect it from tarnish for up to a year.
  
  Don't make the mistake of leaving your jewelry laying out exposed on a table or counter. The main culprit behind tarnish and dulling is the air around us! Keep your pieces safe!
  
  A general rule of thumb to follow is that your jewelry should be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night. This will help keep chemicals, makeup, perfumes, and other products from getting on the jewelry and damaging it. 

Cleaning & Polishing

• If your jewelry needs cleaning or begins to appear dull or tarnished, don’t worry – it's easy to get back that beautiful, shiny luster. Cleaning your jewelry regularly is a crucial step in its maintenance. Depending on the type of jewelry and metal, different cleaning methods may be required. However, here are some general tips that apply to most jewelry types.
  
  To clean and remove grime, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush, mild soap and warm water to gently scrub to remove debris. Then pat the jewelry dry throughly with a soft cloth. Never use harsh chemicals or toothpaste!
  
  To restore shine and polish your jewelry, you can use a formulated jewelery polishing cloth (we sell one!) to keep it bright and sparkling. Don’t polish oxidized black jewelry, doing so will remove the black finish.
  
  What about tarnish? Did you know that all sterling silver jewelry is prone to tarnish? Don't worry--with just a little love and maintenance, removing and preventing tarnish to keeping your silver looking fabulous is a breeze! Tarnish is a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the ambient air--It's all around us! 925 Sterling Silver is more resistant than pure 999 silver, but tarnishing is still a natural process that can happen to any silver metal with time and exposure to makeup, hair products, soaps, chemicals, or even just the air around you.
  
  Luckily, tarnish is easily removed! A simple jewelry polishing cloth formulated specifically to remove silver tarnish will clean, remove tarnish, and shine the jewelry beautifully. Regular cleanings of all your silver jewelry will prevent tarnish and keep your silver bright and sparkling! Did you know that wearing your jewelry often is the best way to prevent tarnish? You're skin acts as a natural tarnish barrier!

Sterling Silver

• For our silver jewelry we use certified 925 sterling silver. Sterling silver exudes elegance with its timeless allure. This durable, lightweight alloy is ideal for everyday wear, promising a lasting charm that stays with you through every moment. Sterling silver has been used in jewelry-making for centuries.
  
  Sterling silver is made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, which is why you may sometimes see it referred to as "925 sterling silver" or ".925". This high silver content is what gives the metal its lustrous shine. The copper content  makes the metal more durable and resistant to scratches, dents, and tarnish.
  
  But why mix copper with pure silver? You might think, “Oh, sterling silver is not as good as pure silver”. While it may not be pure, sterling silver is mixed to this ratio for very good reasons. Silver oxidizes (tarnishes) quickly, leaving it a yucky brown color. Copper slows down this process. Secondly, pure silver is very soft and can bend or break easily. Adding a more durable metal ensures that your silver jewelry will last a lot longer and look a lot nicer. So really, sterling silver, although not pure, is usually the better option when choosing silver jewelry. And because it is hypoallergenic, it's a great option for those with sensitive skin.

14K Gold Fill

• We use 14K Yellow Gold Fill and 14K Rose Gold Fill in many of our pieces as a durable and more affordable alternative to solid gold. Gold Fill is a luxurious metal option that's becoming increasingly popular! If you're someone who loves gold, but don't want to break the bank, then this might be the perfect solution for you.
  
  So, what exactly is Gold Fill? Gold Fill is a type of metal that is made of a thick layer of real solid 14K gold that is permanently heat and pressure bonded to a center core of high-quality jewelers brass. This results in a piece of jewelry that has the same beautiful look and feel as solid gold, but at a fraction of the cost.
  
  One of the great things about Gold Fill is that it is extremely durable and long-lasting. The thick layer of gold makes it resistant to tarnishing and it wont fade or change colors like pesky gold plated jewelry, so you can wear it every day without worrying about it losing its color. In fact, with proper care, Gold Fill jewelry can last many lifetimes.

• We occasionally use Gold Vermeil in some of our designs. If you've ever come across the term "Gold Vermeil" (pronounced vur-MAY) and wondered what it means, let us break it down for you. Gold Vermeil is a type of metal that is made from solid 925 sterling silver and plated with a thick layer of solid 14k gold. To qualify as Gold Vermeil, the gold plating must be at least 2.5 microns thick and the sterling silver base must be of high quality, meeting legal standards.
  
  You might be wonder why someone would choose Gold Vermeil over solid gold. Gold Vermeil is a more affordable option since the base metal is sterling silver. Additionally, Gold Vermeil is very durable, and with proper care, can last for years. Gold Vermeil is the best of both worlds—incredible quality at affordable prices!
  
  It's important to note that not all gold-plated jewelry qualifies as Gold Vermeil. For example, "gold-tone" or "gold plated" jewelry might have a thin layer of gold paint or electroplating that can wear off easily. Gold Vermeil, on the other hand, offers a much thicker layer of gold that's designed to last. Vermeil pieces are stamped with the standard sterling silver purity mark (925 or .925), which tells you that the piece is genuine.
  
  Fun Fact: Did you know Gold Vermeil is often used for cutlery and luxury home decor? The White House has a Vermeil Room dedicated to a collection of vermeil pieces.

How long will it take to receive my order?

• Processing time refers to the time required to make your order. This does not include transit time. Since all of our jewelry is handmade in our studio and takes time to produce, our processing time is currently about 3-7 business days. Production time is subject to change with high order volume and may be longer during the holidays.
• Shipping time refers to the time it takes for your order to reach its destination. After processing, you can expect to receive your order in the times according to the charts below. Once your order is ready, we entrust it to USPS (or another reliable carrier) for safe delivery to your doorstep.

• What is that small piece of black paper in my order? With every order, we place a small black anti-tarnish tab inside the jewelry box. All jewelry, no matter the quality, is prone to tarnish from sitting in the ambient air. To help prevent this, we include this tab with your order to help you keep your jewelry looking beautiful. You can store the tab with your jewelry to provide protection against tarnish for up to 12 months. Tarnish-causing elements are absorbed without emitting damaging gases. These tabs will not leave deposits on jewelry items and are non-toxic and non-abrasive.

• INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS & IMPORT TAXES
  Before making a purchase, please check into your country's customs and duty policies. Rates for international packages and customs vary by nation, and aren’t reflected in our pricing or shipping charges. Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply.
• INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING DELAYS
  Please keep in mind that transit times can vary greatly. Occasionally packages can be substantially delayed up to 45 days, but the usual transit time is 7 – 14 days. When traveling across a border, packages occasionally get held up at customs, which is in the hands of the country's customs officials. Please understand you are taking a risk in buying internationally that your package may be (uncommonly) delayed up to 7 weeks.
• TRACKING INTERNATIONAL ORDERS
  If your order was shipped with USPS, the tracking numbers for International shipments only show where they are in the USA. Once a package has departed the USA, the tracking number is not always updated at each stop. When your package is outside the USA, there will sometimes be no update until it’s been delivered. The tracking will show your package being “frozen” at a major US port (like Los Angeles), but this doesn’t mean your package isn’t moving; it’s just moving overseas.

• How do I track my order? When your order ships you will receive an email providing you with a tracking number to track your order. Sometimes this email gets sorted into spam or promotions folders so be sure to take a look in there if it feels like you have been waiting a little too long. You can also log into your account and click on the order in question to see the status.*Please note that sometimes the tracking can take a day or two to be updated by the carrier. If it looks like its not moving, chances are its on its way!
• I have an issue with my order. What do I do? Please contact us Here within 5 days of delivery for any order-related issues and we'll be glad to assist! Returns and exchanges are accepted within 30 days of purchase. Please view our Return Policy Here. You can request a return or exchange Here.
• My order never got to me, what do I do? Oh no! Hopefully this doesn’t happen but if it does, although our shipping carriers work independently to deliver your package, we’ll figure this out together! If it's been marked delivered and it's only been one day-sit tight! Sometimes the carriers scan it before it gets to you. Keep an eye out for the next few hours! If the tracking hasn’t been updated in an unusually long time or if it was never updated since it was made, chances are it was lost in transit. Please file a claim with the carrier. If there is no conclusion after two weeks, please let us know and we will look into replacing or crediting you for your order. If the shipping address was a temporary location, we do not assume responsibility if the recipient is no longer at that address upon delivery within the projected shipping timeline.

Does Permanent jewelry hurt?

• Definitely not! You won't feel a thing! It is a surprisingly quick process and we take extra safety precautions to keep you safe.

What if I need to take my permanent jewelry off?

• No problem! Simply locate the welded jump ring/chain link and cut it with cutters or scissors. Be sure to keep the chain and we'll be glad to re-weld it for you! A re-welding fee will apply.

Can i wear permanent jewelry through airport security?

• Absolutely. This jewelry is not required to be removed by TSA for airport security.
  

What happens if my Permanent jewelry breaks?

• Before you leave our studio, we ensure the integrity of the weld. However, things happen! Our pieces are designed to be permanent, but they are not unbreakable. If you need to remove your permanent jewelry or if your welded jewelry comes off for any reason, you are welcome to bring it back to our studio when you're ready to have it welded back on. Just select the "Reweld" option when booking an appointment! Rewelds incur a $20 fee. If for some reason the weld on your jewelry comes apart within 30 days of your appointment, we will reweld it at no cost to you! If your jewelry is not in its original form and has been stretched beyond repair, a new piece will need to be purchased. Melanie Golden Artisan Jewelry is not responsible for lost jewelry.

Is a Deposit Required to book a Permanent Jewlery Appointment?

How many people can come to my Permanent Jewelry Appointment?

• We can ZAP up to 2 people per 30-minute appointment. Bring your boyfriend, girlfriend, BFF, mom, sister, etc for a fun experience or to commemorate a special occasion! There is no limit on how many pieces per appointment as long as it fits within your 30-minute appointment time, so go wild! We love stacking on the chains for a minimalist, yet bold multi-piece look! Want to book an appointment for more than 2 people? Feel free to book subsequent appointments! Have 4 people? book two appointments back-to back! 6 people? book 3 appointments!

What is the age requirement for permanent jewelry?

• With parental consent, we can weld anyone over the age of 2. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  

Do you offer private permanent jewelry parties?

• Yes! We are currently booking private parties and pop-up events. You can book a private jewelry party for birthdays, bachelorette parties, sorority events, or a fun night with your friends! We require at least 10 people to book a private event, and a $100 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date. Permanent Jewelry applications are a separate cost for each individual. Do you have any stores or physical locations?

• Our jewelry is sold exclusively online. You can purchase our jewelry directly through our website,  our Etsy shop, or Amazon store. We do however offer in-studio appointments for permanent jewelry.

• Creating handcrafted personalized jewelry for each order to tell your Golden story is what drives the heart of the Melanie Golden brand. We sell directly to customers to ensure a truly customized experience. At this time, we do not offer wholesale options, though it may be a possibility in the future. Is your jewelry Nickel Free?

• Yes! We're proud to say all of our jewelry is nickel-free. We use 925 Sterling Silver, 14K Gold Fill, 14K Rose Gold Fill, Gold Vermeil, and Solid 14K Gold. All of these metals are lead and nickel-free. Yay!
  

Can my Jewelry Get Wet?

• Fresh Water is generally safe for your cherished jewelry—rain, rivers, or lakes won't lead to rust or tarnish the metals we use. Simply pat your pieces dry after they're dampened. 
• Be mindful in the shower! Harsh soaps and shampoos could spoil their shine. Should you decide to wear your jewelry in the shower, opt for gentler cleansing products with a low pH. Dodge those potent fragrances and antibacterial options, and give your jewelry a good rinse if it meets any product. 
  Also remember to remove your jewelry when using lotions or creams—wait for your skin to absorb these before wearing your pieces again.
  
• Swimming & Hottubs: Steer clear of chemically treated water like what you'd find in pools and spas; it's best to remove your jewelry beforehand.
  
• A special note for opals and turquoise: these delicate gems should always stay dry to preserve their beauty.

Does Your Jewelry Have A Warranty?

• Yes! Our jewelry has  a 60-day warranty for all chain and clasp defects. Contact us right to coordinate a timely repair. If it’s been more than 60 days, or if you have a different problem, please contact us and we’ll work with you towards a solution.
